Part pop, part electronic, a tad bit punk, This Is A Shakedown play upbeat dance pop that's got elements of rock, but lean more towards the club side for the most part on their new cd "Love Kills". There's a cover of "My Funny Valentine" that's pretty damn cool, & the opening track "Circles" should be played in a dark room with strobe lights flashing... what I mean by that is, the song has a very dance club feel to it & it's a fun song that might not be as interesting if you're setting still as opposed to if you're moving about in a dark lit room with flashing lights going off. I dig the artwork for the record... the art is basically a girl passed out & my take on the art is that it's the end result from the girl going out & partying all night & using This Is A Shakedown's music as her background music or perhaps from attending one of the bands shows? Overall, this is a fun, upbeat, listener friendly record, the band reminds me of Orgy in bits & pieces, but the main difference is that This is A Shakedown are NOT dark or goth or gloomy in ANY remote way... they are quite the opposite of Orgy in that there's no dark elements on this record for the most part.
